FLAMENCO SINGER
Sergio Gómez
“El Colorao”
BIOGRAPHY & ORIGINS
Flamenco training and first steps
Sergio Gómez Delgado, known on stage as Sergio “El Colorao”, grew up close to the purest roots of flamenco. His father, Antonio Gómez “El Colorao”, passed on his art to him and taught him the fundamentals of cante from his earliest years.
At just six years old he gave his first performance, accompanied by his brother on guitar at a school party. From then on he began singing alongside his father at numerous peñas flamencas and festivals across Andalusia.
At ten he formed the group Oyana with other young artists who would later make their mark in the flamenco world. During the group’s three years together, Sergio began to define a style of his own and shared the bill with artists such as Remedios Amaya, Raimundo Amador, La Susi, Rebeca and Ecos del Rocío.
An established career on major stages
After taking part in the show “Trasnoches Flamencos” in Madrid in 2000, Sergio launched his solo career. His approach combined respect for traditional flamenco with a contemporary vision, reviving and reinventing some of the less commonly performed cantes.
Throughout his career he has accompanied dancers such as Juan Ramírez, Manolete, La Moneta, Juan Andrés Maya, Adrián Sánchez, Jara Heredia, Ana Calí and Eva Esquivel. He has also performed at venues such as the Teatro Albéniz in Madrid, the Teatro Isabel la Católica, the Auditorio Manuel de Falla, the Teatro Municipal de Ermua and the Théâtre de Périgueux in France.
His career includes performances at iconic venues such as Casa Patas and Cardamomo, as well as appearances at the Seville Biennial, the Málaga Biennial, the Jerez Festival and numerous international shows and tours. He has also been part of projects such as the Small Band Flamenca, championed by Rubem Dantas and Jerry González.
